Important tips for feeding the
baby with your expressed milk
Do not heat the milk directly on the stove or in the microwave.
Test the temperature before feeding it to your baby by putting a few drops on your wrist. It should feel warm, not hot.
Sometimes the creamy part of the milk rises to the top of the expressed milk. If this happens, swirl the milk to mix the fat without shaking the expressed breastmilk.
You can give the expressed milk with a spoon, cup or syringe feeding. If you choose to give the expressed milk with one of these methods, please ask the nurse to show you how.
